Interestingly, the delivery of health care does not occur within one single system. There is no network of interrelated components designed to work together. Instead, what we have is characterized by fragmentation and complexity. The system is fragmented. Many believe it is because there is no central agency for overall planning, direction, and coordination. The complexity of health care delivery involves number of “stakeholders” ranging from: consumers to providers, private payers to government entities/ agencies, hospitals to nursing homes, schools to suppliers. For this discussion take a position on whether or not you believe we need a central agency to oversee healthcare in this nation.
