The utility of an action is determined by its tendency to produce or promote happiness. Actions that result in happiness have positive utility; those that create misery have negative utility. In weighing the effects of an action, utilitarianism maintains that we must take into consideration all of the parties concerned and that all parties shall be given equal consideration. Thus, utilitarianism is committed to the value of equality”(Steinbock, 2012, p. 10). I have always looked at the consequences of a choice and base my decisions on that most of the time. I also look at how the consequences of my choice will affect the others that may be involved. How will it play out not only for myself but also for all those involved?
